Japan has always been much more accepting of toilet humor on its children’s television than America – see Dr. Slump and Crayon Shin-chan as prime examples of scatologically-minded scamps. So, with the recent announcement of a second Unko-san series, I decided that I’d cover him a bit for today’s Weird Wednesday. So, as you can [...]

It’s been five years since Fafner (AKA Soukyuu no Fafner) brought its world of robot-pilots vs. aliens and bromance to life, and XEBEC has seen fit to make a delayed sequel to the popular show. Over on the official Fafner site, there’s now a brief teaser that declares the existence of a new series, and [...]

It’s been a long time since the heyday of Shiina Hekiru, so it’s entirely possible that you don’t know who she is. Her most famous role came 15 years ago, as Hikaru in Magic Knight Rayearth. After that, she gained a lot of popularity as a singer, especially after a 1997 concert at the legendary [...]

Are you ready for more dramatic baseball with mildly homo-erotic undertones? If so, you’re in luck, because the popular Big Windup! Did everyone have a good weekend? I spent most of it playing Tokimeki Memorial 4, but there was plenty of motion in the anime world. Among other things, we have a manga sequel to magical girl series Shugo Chara, an anime sequel to parody/history/moe anime Shin Koihime Musou, and a note of recognition for one [...]

When it comes to anime and manga, there is no subject too sacred, no person too revered for the Japanese to parody. The latest anime to prove this point is Mudadzumo Naki Kaikaku (AKA The Legend of Koizumi) , which is based on a overblown and hilarious manga about world leaders playing mahjong in order [...]
